Dutch John Resort at Flaming Gorge has friendly and helpful staff, though I found the check-in process a bit hectic. You pick up the rafts and get fitted for life vests at the back of the building, but there’s not much clear direction when you arrive. We ended up going inside to speak with someone behind the cash register, and while they were polite, the communication was a little difficult. Considering how long this place has been around, I expected a more streamlined process for getting people in and out. It also wasn’t clear where to park, so we just left our vehicle in front of the building. On the plus side, the equipment was good, life vests fit well, and the rafts performed nicely on the river. The only odd part was that they issued just five oars per raft, even though we had six people on each. Since we were told the rafts could hold 8–10 people, it was strange that only half the passengers were set up to paddle. It worked out fine for me (more time to take pictures), but it felt a little limiting. I’ll definitely ask next time to make sure everyone has an oar.

We had a very memorable trip at Dutch John resort. We stayed in a cabin that had 2 rooms and a hide-a-bed on the main floor. The cabin was perfect for what we needed. It was clean and had everything we needed. We rafted the river. The staff dropped us off and came and picked us up when we finished. The staff was very pleasant and it was nice to get to know them. The staff was made up of college kids from all over the world. They were respectful and helpful the whole time. We had 8 people in our party and we can be a lot to handle when we are together. They handled it just fine. One of the highlights is the homemade ice cream they make there at the facility. If a city hotel and all that comes with it is your thing, this isn’t your place. This is a resort a in one of the most beautiful, rugged backdrops in Utah. We are coming back for sure.

Amazing place, we had a great time rafting!!! The raft boys were phenomenal, they set us up with a raft and few kayaks in no time! We’ve never seen such hard workers - they should definitely get a raise!!! After rafting we went to the restaurant to grab a meal. We were instantly greeted by one of the servers. The staff is very well trained and knowledgeable. We ordered a pizza and we loved it! It was one of the best we’ve ever had. The cooks did a really good job! Can’t wait to visit this place again!!!

In August 2025, we visited the Dutch John Resort at Flaming Gorge in Dutch John, Utah. This resort claims to have the largest fly fishing hook in the world, and as this hook is a large statue with rear rods for the hook feathers, that claim is likely true. For being such a remote location, I was surprised that the gas only cost $3.69 and gas in Vernal, the closest large city was $3.29 to $3.39. This is a fun resort to visit, and Flaming Gorge is a beautiful vacation destination.

My husband and I booked a quick trip to Dutch John Resort on the spur of the moment. We got a "cowboy cabin" and found the accommodations to be very nice. The staff at the restaurant and convenience store are really nice foreign exchange students from all over the world. They were very friendly and customer service oriented. The ice cream and pizza here was yummy! Best of all we got to fish with Rhett and he was just delightful. We fished the B Section of the Green and couldn't have been more pleased with Rhett's knowledge of the river, his fly fishing skills and rowing skills. He also made us an amazing lunch on the river - grilled cheeseburgers! It was an awesome day and we appreciate the team at Dutch John Resort! We will definitely be back in the spring!

I stayed in a cabin lite and really enjoyed my experience. I planned to arrive late and the friendly staff helped me check in over the phone. On top of that, I went into the gas station as they were closing. The nicest lady stayed after to alow me to buy a few things. Very down to earth, good people. I'm honestly surprised at the negative reviews as I experienced none of what is mentioned. Clean bathrooms/showers, clean cabin with bedding and they had the heater running so it was cozy upon my arrival.

Dutch John Resort where the Dutch might not actually be Dutch, but if they were, I bet they’d be super tall, very polite, and excellent at selling $40 pizzas. And speaking of that pizza worth every penny. Delicious enough to make me shout “Gezellig!” (I think that means cozy… or maybe cheese… who knows). We’re pumped for the soon-to-be mini golf course, even if the bathrooms are slowly withering into crypts best left unexplored. At least the gym helped me achieve some serious gains to haul myself out of those restroom depths if needed. Beware of the swing set, though it’s sketchier than a Dutch tulip deal in the 1600s. Still, five stars for the views, the vibes, and the pizza that might bankrupt me but will leave me smiling.

A little old and run down, but definitely going to plan a trip here to try out their cabins and do some wilderness exploring. Beautiful location and looking forward to coming back.
